Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I import my data into the software?

We provide several ways of entering data into the software. First, you should check our list of brokerage firms that enable direct import of data into our software. This means that you do NOT have to key in each of you traders ... they are automatically imported. In the event your brokerage firm is not listed, we import many of the data elements for you to make data entry very easy. For example, when you type in the symbol of the option you traded, we import the strike price, expiration date, stock symbol, company name and any other required "underlying" information so that you have to do is enter in the # of contracts and price per contract.

And if you're a savvy programmer, check out our import spec document. It shows you how to format a text file so that you may import data into our software.

2. Do I need to purchase two copies for my home computer and work computer?

If you have a home computer and work computer (or Laptop), we don't mind you installing the software on a 2nd computer as long as you are the ONLY person using it on the 2nd computer. You should not be installing on two different computers with the intention of allowing other people to use the software.

3. On my Gain/Loss report and other Option reports I would like to show the company name of the option. How can I add this field?

There is a list of fields that you need to work from called "Option: Primary". You access these fields by customizing the report and clicking on the toggle switch to the left of holding:

Under Holding, toggle the Investment field:

Scroll down this list until you find the "Option: Primary" field and toggle this field:

Within this sub-list, it refers to the "Stock" fields for the Option. So in this sub-list if you select "Symbol" it will be referring to the Stock symbol. The Description field refers to the stock description (or company name).

4. What kind of transaction should I use to adjust an account balance that does not affect it's performance?

Create a manual transaction for a "Cash Deposit" or "Cash Withdrawal" depending on your needs.

5. I am trying to fix a discrepancy caused by a stock split that does not work out to a round number (E.G. 3:2). How should I correct this?

Make up the difference on the missing decimal by doing a manual sell or buy for the quantity difference at a cost of $0. This will correct the quantity without affecting cash.

6. I have Portfolio Director Professional (the client software) installed on a PC running Windows Vista and I am not getting any software updates. Why?

Because of new security changes in Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system, Portfolio Director is unable to "update" itself with software updates. To correct this problem, right-click on your Portfolio Director short-cut, select the "Properties" option, click on the "Compatibility" tab, and enable "Run this program as an administrator".

Portfolio Director provides an effective, flexible and versatile portfolio management experience. Whether you need multiple-user access, customizable content or a Web application, Portfolio Director has the tools you need for success.
